What to Know About Making a Day-in-the-Life Film

August 3, 2022 by Michael Waks

woman filming herself

If you’re putting together a car accident claim, it may be wise to include a day-in-the-life film. Compelling video footage can bolster your case by providing so much more context than documents and photographs alone.

Before you take out your smartphone and start recording your daily activities, though, there are a few things you should know. Here are some of the most important tips to keep in mind to ensure your day-in-the-life film is as gripping as possible:

1. You Don’t Have to Film for 24 Hours Straight

Despite its name, a day-in-the-life film doesn’t necessarily have to be comprised of footage from the same 24-hour period. When recovering from serious injuries, recording yourself can be utterly exhausting, so it’s perfectly acceptable to spread out the filming over the course of several days. As long as the final product is a realistic representation of what you experience during a single day, you can include it in your claim as a “day-in-the-life” film.

2. You Do Have to Be Fairly Vulnerable After the Car Accident

The primary purpose of the film is to illustrate the everyday hurdles you now face because of your injuries. Naturally, you’re going to have to get comfortable opening up in front of the camera in order to do so.

For example, it may be wise to record a doctor’s visit or physical therapy session. Likewise, you should capture any help you need to complete domestic duties like housekeeping or meal preparation. Recording yourself during such vulnerable times takes some getting used it, but the raw footage that results will make it easier to pursue every dollar you deserve.

3. You Can Turn to Seasoned Professionals for Help

If you don’t want to make the film yourself, a resourceful personal injury firm can help. They should be able to record the scenes, compile the footage, and edit everything into a compelling narrative that supports your damages claim. Quality PI Firms retain the services of companies that specialize in making these day in the Life Videos. The cost is expensive but they are worth their weight in gold at the end of the day. You simply have to show up and go about your day, and they’ll take care of the rest.

Testimonials

Michael represented me in a personal injury case and I can’t recommend him enough. From the very first consultation he made sure that I was always aware of my options and up to speed with every aspect of my case. He answered all my questions and used his experience and expertise to help guide my decisions instead of trying to make them all for me. He not only ensured that the settlement I received was more than enough to cover all my bills and expenses but he also made sure I had piece of mind and would be taken care of going forward.
